Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. The West Island has a lot of different communities. For those who haven't been aware of it frequently mistake it for a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often referenced, however her brief stay wasn't. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned into acting. Her high school teacher school was what pushed her into the right direction. Teacher who recommended she try to find a role in the school's annual show. The teacher who suggested she take on a part in the school's annual production. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Through the years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the sole Canadian on the season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
